STEM for kids - How to make a speaker with cups and paper towel rolls
Hi my friends,
Welcome back for a new STEM tutorial for you and you kids on how to make stuff at home. We usually focus on STEM related projects for kids evolving around, learn how to code, robotics, electronics, 3D modelling, hands-on, crafting and more.
In this tutorial, we will see how to make a simple speaker for smartphone with cups and paper towel at home.
Materials
To get started, you need to gather the following materials:
2 cups
1 paper towel roll
A smartphone
A marker
You also need tools:
One pair of scissors
And 1 utility knife
Steps to make your homemade speaker
To get started, get your plastic cup and cut 1 hole in each of them with the utility knife or a pair of scissors (big as the paper roll).
You can now do the the other cup with the same size for the hole as well.
Cut the paper roll at it's 2/3.
Draw the smartphone the print on it with a pen, pencil or marker.
Then cut it with a pair of scissors.
When done, you can the 2 cups on each side of the paper roll.
We can now place the smartphone inside the hole and test the sound difference when the device is outside and inside the paper roll.
Video test of the speaker
You can see with that small video the difference of sound with this homemade speaker made of paper roll and cups. I think your children would like doing this STEM project with you of course. Because we use a pair of scissors and an utility knife. So they will need your help to stay safe during the manipulation (It's very important because the risk are real and there).
